Gill... is awesome. He's like that uncle you got that always gives you ice-cream before dinner, even though just five minutes ago the parents told him not to do that. You know, the guy you look up to and always want to be around. Gill is really awesome like that.

His voice makes me happy inside. DaFooooe~
He actually was a great character. I loved how almost kiddish he was at times (when planning his escape and encouraging Nemo while he was in the filter), mixed with his more morose moments. Without him, the Tank Gang scenes would've been funny, but boring. He really added a flair to that group.

GIILLLLLL!!!!!!!!!!!!! Gill is definitely my favorite character. By far. He's like the mentor that gives you the confidence to do something that you hadn't done before because of your fears. I love how he's the one in Finding Nemo, the first one to take all of Nemo's fears and restraints and say "Screw that. You're gonna do this." Someone who's willing to push the limits of your mind to help you do what you've always wanted to do. I wish I had someone like that.

Gill is one of my favorite characters, for several reasons...besides the fact that I'm a Gill fangirl (shut up -_-). XD
First of all, the fact that he's a Moorish idol -- a fish that is easily recognizable, but not often used in the media -- immediately caught my attention. I mean, he's the first Moorish idol that's been in an ocean-themed movie. Ever see a Moorish idol in The Little Mermaid? I didn't think so. XD
Second, his longing for freedom. As of late, I've really been able to connect with wishing to get out of where I seem to be stuck and getting in the ocean. I've even forgotten about how much my longing could hurt my nieces. "I was so ready to get out, so ready to taste that ocean...I was willing to put you in harm's way to get there. Nothing should be worth that," matches me more than most people realize.
Third, the fact that his injuries and his emoness doesn't get in the way of his being a good person...er, fish. When you meet a gruff character who's torn up on one side, you don't expect him to be the sort of fellow to reach out and help. Sure, at first, he only wanted to use Nemo's escape to get himself out...but, in the end, he just wanted to get the poor kid home. What a cool guy. ^^
And I agree with you, Marlin. DaFoe's voice = love.

I think tthe defining line that connected me with Gill is this little exchange here:
That's why I have his shredded fin as an avatar.

I think what really made me love Gill was the whole "Initiation" scene, where he flies through the bubbles and bumps into Gill, both having their own smile on their faces. BFFS FOREVER.

Gill was a close second for my favorite character. I loved how mysterious and intriguing he was, and how much he and Nemo warmed up to each other over the course of the movie.
