He needs more fandom love. Poor guy tends to get kind of upstaged by Dory. She's funny and all, but...I dunno, I find Marlin's somewhat sardonic brand of humor a little funnier. But that's just me~
Marlin's really grown on me over the years. I think it's because I'm too much like him...

So... you're a middle aged man still mourning the death of his wife by being an over protective father to your only son, who has a gimpy arm/fin?

...shh...dun tell anyone...(there was really no way to respond to that joke question WITHOUT sounding like some creepy internet pedo...just sayin') I meant personality-wise. We're both a tad paranoid and short tempered, love to control people around us because we think we know what's best, and tend to be very protective of those close to us. Aside from that, we're as different as can--NEMO, DON'T TOUCH THAT!!

Well, I suppose I'm nothing like Marlin then- I like to control people because I'm absolutely terrorized by the thought of not even having an ounce of control. I need some power over my actions, or I just freak out and break down. Not even kidding here. I constantly have nightmares where I lose control over video games, or my life, or something, and it screws with me so bad.
It feels as if I'm trapped in a small box and I just can't breath.
ANYWHOO I'm nothing like Marlin. But, you seem like you are, so that's interesting.

lol @ you two. XD
Marlin's starting to grow on me, too. He reminds me a lot of my own dad. They were both overly-protective, but only because they loved their kids so much and didn't want them to be hurt.

I wonder if Marlin would have developed that overprotectiveness if (a) Coral didn't get killed, reminding him that there are dangerous fish out there; (b) Nemo wasn't the only one of his offspring to survive; (c) Nemo didn't have the gimpy fin. I would guess that Marlin's paranoia about the open ocean and its dangers started with the death of his wife. Before that, he was excited about living right by the Drop-off.

Really, he struck me as a bit of a pessimist beforehand ("What if they don't like me? No, really."). My guess is he had his doubts about the safety of the ocean, but Coral reminded him there were good things in the world. Given the violent nature of her death, that probably stripped away any belief he had that the world had any good in it.
Outside of Nemo, anyhow.
