Ah, that forgetful, scatterbrained, lovable blue tang! Gotta love 'er.
As much as I grouse about her popularity, I do really like her. She was my absolute favorite upon first seeing the film and still holds a place in my heart (I'd call her my second favorite in the movie for sure).
I just dislike the fact people ONLY seem to like her because she's funny. I agree, she's hysterical...but there's much more to her than that. She was the heart of the film, in my opinion, and needs more credit for that.
Anyhow, discuss!

Yes, Discuss. NAOW. ><' hehe, jk Anyway, Yes I agree with you, she's definitely the funniest role in the movie, and, if you look at it the right way, the most interesting role too. I thought it was interesting how Andrew Stanton said that he imagined her as a "substitute" kid for Marlin while he was looking for Nemo, but I kind of disagree with that, at least in my opinion. To me, she seems more like the "guardian angel" that Mr. Stanton mentioned.

So many incredible lines!! Without Dory this film wouldn't have succeeded.
It is so hard to choose a favorite line, because every thing she utters is so memorable and perfectly executed. I credit Ellen DeGeneres for giving one of the best vocal performances ever.

Well, Dory certainly was something. She was the Ying to Marlins Yang, I suppose. They're always chasing after one another, trying to understand each other, but they just can never reach one another, and yet they're just like family despite this trench they just cannot cross. She and Marlin are more interesting then what really meets the eye, and that's why I just love her. Of course, I could just be making things up- it has been a while since I last rewatched Nemo.

Actually, YAY, I think you've pretty much put your finger on why I enjoy their scenes so much. There was just something about how they interacted that was alternately amusing and fascinating.
You know, one of my biggest questions about this movie is what Dory's life was like before the film. Where was she all that time? Did she just go from place to place aimlessly? Where was she headed to before slamming headlong into Marlin?
I have this odd theory that she was raised in an aquarium or something like that. It would account for how she learned to read human, as Peach displayed the same ability (and the Tank Gang seemed well-versed in the goings on of human kind). My guess is she was released at some point...and probably lost contact with another fish she'd been living with in the tank, which is where her abandonment issues come from.
Mebbe it was a clownfish...I often see tangs grouped with clownfish in fish tanks, so mebbe that's why she got along with Marlin so fast: some part of her thought she recognized him.
Wow, rambling. Sorry. I tend to think too much about the insignificant.

I think that may be because there are so many people that have seen the movie and wanna recreate that in their tank and naming them "Marlin" and "Dory".

You know, Marlin, I look at the tangs and clownfish at the aquarium I work at...and, even though they're in the same tank, they usually keep their distance. But, yes, all the kids see them and scream, "DORYYYY!!! NEMOOOO!!!" Poor Marlin (the fish) gets no love... And, while I do love Dory's humorous lines...I do also like her sweetness. Her naievete. Her helpfullness. She doesn't let her memory issues drag her down (although that MUST be annoying for her...I am a bit forgetful, and it angers me SO VERY MUCH), nor does she get all, "Ho hum, life sucks, can't remember diddly-squat and I got no family." Instead, she says, "Life is awesome and beautiful and wonderful and...uh-oh, I forget what else. Oh, well. Ooh! A dolphin! HI, DOLPHIN!" And I remember reading in the FiN Essential Guide (boring days at the library and lead you to the strangest books) that Dory graduated top of her class. She was supposed to give the valedectorian speech, but she forgot. So I always though she'd been heading to her fish graduation when the boat went by, she freaked out, ran into Marlin, yadda yadda yadda...

I dunno, I always figured she forgot how to be depressed or sad- she had no reason to be, since she always forgot trying to remember something. So, in a way, she's blessed with the gift of happiness, with the loss of memories. I wonder how it would be if she could remember everything- it would probably be very traumatic. Or something. Lawl still being all emo and stuff. I need to stop.

Every time I've looked, they're swimming together...I suppose the universe is pandering to my Dory/Marlin fixation or something... (and I always label clownfish as 'Marlin'...but that comes as no surprise to anyone, so I'll move on) And I remember reading in the FiN Essential Guide (boring days at the library and lead you to the strangest books) that Dory graduated top of her class. Explaining would be nice!

In all honesty, I find it hard to believe she's a teenager...she doesn't look OR sound like one.

Maybe it was a fan made book and was not related to Pixar/Disney in any way, shape or form?

...But that would mean, if we're going by human years, Dory is 18- unless this school is more like college, in which she would be 22. In which, considering Marlin is at [/i]least[/i] 34, and that would be a 12 years age difference, which... is really creepy. If we're talking about a relationship.

Rochester was in his late thirties/early forties, Jane Eyre was eighteen, and they got married.
