Yeah, despise is a strong word, but Nemo is a young child- he wouldn't know how to deal with the fact that Dory wasn't Dory anymore, and she was his "mom". He loves her to death like his best friend, but wouldn't it be weird seeing your best friend flirting with your father? It just... ruins it. And I really think that it's hard to make a Dory/Marlin story without really changing Marlins character. The problem is with writing, you never get to see their expressions- and that would actually very much help me if I ever decided to write a romance between the two. Which I have tried. On multiple occasions. Seriously. It's so freaking hard.

Don't be afraid to weigh in littleblue! This is a free forum and all opinions are important!
And I totally get what you mean, YAY. It always gets weird when some other person tries to fill in such an integral role in a child's life. There were only two boyfriends my mom had that I really bonded with, because they were warm and open with me. They weren't "father" figures, but they were certainly friends.
I think before Dory would ever pair off with Marlin, she'd have to prove herself as a parent. She's still learning to care for herself at this point, so that would probably be much later on. And the two of them were still getting used to each other in the movie, so I definitely think more time together is necessary anyhow.
Blah. I'm babbling now.

So, now that we all agree, now I feel I must raise a very important question that has been bothering me- Obviously Marlin does not live in the original home that got his lady eated, and now lives in a safe little home, safe away for the ocean. So where the poop does Dory live?

Probably a little ways away in some narratively convenient little hole. I dunno, I'd have to watch the film more closely and see if there WAS any place for her...

In the words of me: Well, maybe I need to find out where Regal Tangs usually live before I watch the film again to see where she lives. Where she might live. Probably.

Here I am! ^^
Real fast...I doubt you guys realize how much it annoys me when people say she lives in the anemone with Marlin and Nemo. -_-
From what I've seen with the two paracanthurus hepatuses at Sea Center, they hide away in the rocks when they're tired or want to hide. Other than that, they just keep swimming.
Yeah, I said it.

Part of me wanted my first topic in this area to be Marlin/Coral, since it WAS canon and very sweet (not to mention under-appreciated). But I went for my favorite instead, because I'm dreadfully predictable that way I dunno, I just love the dynamic these two had and think they'd make an endlessly amusing (not to mention sweet) couple. They both bring the best out in each other and really depended on each other. Makes for a great basis for a pairing, in my mind anyhow. Discuss before I start rambling again. I could really go on and on about these two...it's rather saddening, really. I had that thought while watching the movie as well. The only concern of mine was that Marlin seems to treat her more like a child at times than an adult But then again, she acts like a child most of the time It COULD work... and she'd make a very fun mommy for a certain little son of his ;D

Plus more because that is the GREATEST thing I have heard all day. Have some karma, Angel. And now I'm thinking Dory is like a shark, and never stops swimming. GAH GET IT OUT OF MY HEAD!

Tee hee, thanks! ^^ But, of course, not all sharks keep swimming. Nurse sharks and oceanic whitetip sharks take naps. So...should we get back on topic? Or would you like me to tell you more regal blue tang/palette surgeonfish/paracanthurus hepatus facts?

That'd be more a subject for the "Dory" thread, Angel New subject, new subject...oh! I was watching the film a few days ago (my dad put it on to keep the kids distracted...me too, I suppose ). It's funny...watching it again, I would have to say there was one scene that really jumped out at me as being slightly Dory/Marlin-ish. It was when Dory is chasing her brood of turtles and spies Marlin. When she says, "Well go on, jump on him!" she just struck me as kind of a mother figure. Okay, okay, it sounds lame, but I really like that moment (mostly because it's funny to see Marlin getting pummelled by sea turtles, I'll admit), as it shows Dory in a more guardian sort of role. Notice she doesn't tackle Marlin with the rest of the kids, but rather sicks them on him. Of course, she goes right back to being the goofy kid when Marlin tells his story. Yep. That was my thought, anyhow. I know it wasn't intended as shippy, but my shipper's mindset just loves to twist things to my own whims. It's fun.

Indeed it is- but I think that shows how good she is with kids. She would make a good fun mom. And she was, for about two seconds- remember squishy?

In the musical, it's kinda implied that she's taken on a very motherly role with Nemo.
Marlin: Now go and get some knowledge Dory: And come home when you're done
